China-based smartphone maker  Xiaomi   has officially unveiled its new flagship phone. As expected, Xiaomi lifted the lid on the latest device in its Mi series at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, where former Googler and current global VP for Xiaomi  Hugo Barra  gave the first glimpse of the Mi5 phone. Xiaomi has emerged as one of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers since the launch of its first mobile phone way back in 2011, but they’re only available in China and a handful of Asian countries. Though Xiaomi has often been accused of copying Apple’s products, the company sold 70 million smartphones to consumers in 2015, said Barra. The Beijing-based company has long since branched out into other consumer products and services, including self-balancing scooters, fitness bands, tablets, routers, cloud storage, power banks, air purifiers, and more — many of these include separate startups that are backed financially by Xiaomi. Xiaomi’s Mi5 is roughly a month away. The long-rumored smartphone, which some fans have been anticipating for over a year, is set to launch next month. Now we’re being treated to a close-up look at the Mi5 thanks to a leaked photo shared on Chinese social network Weibo. The leaked Mi5 photo seems to match up with previous images we’ve seen. The device features a glass design with a metal ring around the edges, a home button/fingerprint reader just below the display, and a headphone jack up top. We’re also expecting a reversible USB-C port, though that’s not visible in this latest leak. The Weibo tipster also adds fuel to recent speculation that the Mi5 could cost a lot more than its predecessor. Xiaomi may charge as much as 3000 yuan (roughly $455), up from about $320 for the Mi4. Even so, the company is apparently “confident” that the Mi5 will still be a success. Xiaomi’s expected to pack the new phone with plenty of high-end hardware. including a Snapdragon 820 processor

Inline with what the company's Senior VP Wanqiang Li said last week, Xiaomi co-founder Liwan Jiang has also confirmed that the firm's upcoming  Mi 5  flagship smartphone will be launched in February. More specifically, Jiang revealed that the device will be unveiled after the Chinese Spring Festival (which falls on February 8 this year), and will be available for purchase a week later. Specs-wise, it has been  officially confirmed  that the Mi 5 will be powered by Qualcomm's latest SD820 chipset. While other specs aren't yet confirmed,  latest rumors  say it sports a 5.2" QHD screen and has 4GB RAM with 16GB as well as 64GB internal memory options. In terms of camera, the handset features a 16MP main unit and an 8MP front shooter. There's a 3,600mAh battery to keep the lights on, as well as a fingerprint scanner embedded in the physical Home button on the front.

Xiaomi has officially announced the Redmi 3 smartphone. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 chipset, and sports a 5-inch 720P HD display. It comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable internal memory, and packs in a large 4,100mAh battery. In terms of camera, the device features a 13MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter. Measuring 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5mm and weighing in at 144g, the handset ships with the company's MIUI 7 OS. The Redmi 3 offers support for dual-SIM functionality as well as 5V/2A fast charging. Design-wise, the device comes with a full metal body and "an all-new lattice design, made up of 4166 stars woven together to reflect a gorgeous arrangement of diamonds," the company said in the press release. Priced at RMB 699 (around $105 at current exchange rates), the Redmi 3 will go on sale in China starting tomorrow on Mi.com and Tmall.
